I've reached the end

This week I enjoyed reading and thinking about the hybrid classroom. While it's a much different approach to the way I've normally taught, I think it could work with classes that I'm teaching. I'm more of a doing person than a personal thought and reflective type of person so this week stretched me somewhat. I enjoyed the your turn part of the class where I had to pose a question that had no right or wrong answer. I love nationals parks and was saddened to hear how our national shutdown effected them so much. Putting the question out there of how we can proactively think of solutions would get some good discussions going.

This again was an extremely busy week. I'm looking forward to next week when life will slow down some. May 30 is around the corner!!

  1. Janice, I can see how a hybrid course could make so much sense for a science methods course, especially when it only meets once per week. You could certainly include online discussions and responses from students about other students' work. Even if you did class activities like toothpick bridges, analysis of the video could happen outside of class.

I hope you enjoy your time of relaxation.

  2. I also find it much easier to imagine my courses in a hybrid format, which seem to carry many possibilities for student engagement while also maintaining the face to face interaction I enjoy so much with my students. I know online instructors encourage students to stop by their offices, but for distance students this is not possible. I wonder how it is teaching a class with students you may never meet.

    1. I have taught students that I never met in person, and it definitely is not the same. Of course I did not get to know them in the same way as those I taught face to face, but I can honestly say that I did develop a sense of who they were, to the point that I really wanted to meet them - and I eventually did. It was really great when that meeting happened. We hugged!
